Catalog Printing Specs | Offset vs. Digital

Not every catalog job is the same. Short-run product samples for your sales team need a different process than a 50,000-copy seasonal mailer. We run both in-house, which means you get honest guidance, not upselling toward whichever press we happen to have open.

Digital printing starts at just 25 copies. It's ideal for prototypes, regional editions, sales-team kits, and low-volume B2B catalogs where you need fast turnaround and the flexibility to update content each run. Cost per piece is higher, but there's no plate setup, so short runs are cost-effective and fast.

Offset printing is available from 500 copies and becomes dramatically more economical as quantities climb. Offset delivers sharper color consistency, Pantone matching, and a wider range of specialty coatings. It's the right choice for large seasonal print runs, trade show distribution, and high-end product catalogs where brand fidelity is non-negotiable.

The Print + Fulfillment Advantage | No Freight Transfer

Most catalog buyers deal with a painful split: the printer ships finished catalogs to the warehouse, the warehouse receives them, checks them in, and eventually inserts or ships them. That freight leg adds cost, adds days, and introduces one more hand-off where things can go wrong.

At 3rd Party Fulfillment, the press and the warehouse are in the same building. Your catalogs come off our print floor and go directly onto warehouse shelves, no outbound freight from the printer, no inbound receiving fees at the warehouse. When an order comes in through your eCommerce store or EDI channel, our pick-and-pack team grabs the catalog off the shelf and puts it in the box with your product. One facility, one invoice, one point of contact.

  • No freight bill between printer and warehouse, catalogs move internally
  • Faster time-to-shelf: printed catalogs available for fulfillment within hours, not days
  • Single vendor relationship: one call handles print specifications, inventory levels, and shipping
  • Automatic reorder alerts when catalog stock hits your defined reorder threshold
  • Consolidated invoicing: print, storage, pick-and-pack, and postage on one statement

Catalog Distribution Options

Once your catalogs are printed, we can distribute them through multiple channels from the same Fort Lauderdale facility:

Direct mail distribution. Provide a mailing list in CSV format and we handle the rest, addressing, USPS presort, and drop-ship. We can also manage CASS certification and NCOA address validation to reduce undeliverable mail and qualify for presort postage discounts. Ideal for seasonal catalog campaigns and prospect acquisition mailers.

Fulfillment on-demand. Store your catalogs in our warehouse and have them inserted into outbound product orders automatically. When a customer places an order through Shopify, WooCommerce, or your EDI system, the catalog ships with the product at no extra pick fee on most programs.

Trade show distribution. Shipping catalogs to a trade show venue is a different logistical challenge. We can palletize and ship to the advance warehouse or direct to the show floor, with proper labeling for show carriers. After the show, unsold inventory can be returned to our facility for continued use.

Sales team fulfillment. Field reps and regional distributors need catalog inventory on demand. We can fulfill individual requests to sales team members or distributors via a simple order portal, keeping everyone stocked without the home office managing a storage room full of print.

Turnaround Times

Turnaround begins after proof approval, not after file submission. Our pre-press team reviews every file before it goes to plate, catching bleed errors, low-resolution images, and color mode issues before they cause a press delay.

  • Digital printing: 3–5 business days from approved proof
  • Offset printing: 7–10 business days from approved proof
  • Rush digital available: Call 844-310-9720 to discuss expedited scheduling
  • File submission: PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 preferred, 300 DPI minimum, 0.125" bleed
  • Proof delivery: Digital soft proof within 1 business day of file receipt

Variable Data & Personalized Catalogs

Variable data printing (VDP) allows individual catalog copies to carry different content, a different cover, a different name and address, a different product selection, or a different offer. This is especially powerful for companies with regional distribution, multiple customer segments, or large direct mail programs.

Common variable data applications for product catalogs include:

  • Personalized catalog covers with the recipient's name, company, or account rep photo
  • Regional product versions, suppress items not available in certain states or territories
  • Tiered pricing inserts, show wholesale prices to dealer copies, MSRP to retail
  • Unique promo codes or QR codes per recipient for campaign tracking
  • Language versions, English and Spanish from the same print run using variable text blocks

Variable data jobs are handled digitally and merge with your data file (CSV or XML). Our team can assist with file formatting requirements. Minimums apply per variable record set, contact us for a quote on your specific job.
